Simplifying Life

I love a simple photograph.  Unlike trends that fade and colors that eventually become last season, simplicity has its place in time like all the basic elements of life.  It stands on its own, without the dress-up by Photoshop actions or complicated manipulations, and remains a meaningful photograph five or fifty years later.

I spent last Thursday doing the one thing I love: photographing.  No particular flowers were in bloom.  In fact, I don’t even think it is orchid season.  But still I roamed like it was my first time there, at the campus botanical garden, curious as ever.  It seems that every time I visit, I am looking for something different, something I haven’t seen before.

The thing about life… is that even though certain days are lived familiarly, there is still room to see something new, experience something new.

I spent the first day of my 25 years seeing new things at a familiar place.  Towards the end of the afternoon, I sat in my back yard with Alfie and felt grateful all over again.  While Alfie became fascinated with the fallen leaves of his first autumn, I became fascinated with him.  As for all living things, everyday is still a potential for surprise, no matter how familiar living seems.
